Last week’s question was “What is sago (saksak)”. Last week everyone got the correct answer! Sago is a bunch of gray starch that is extracted out of the sago palm. It is the staple food for much of the Sepik. It is prepared in many different ways such as fried in patties, boiled, or cooked as a thick paste. Often it is combined with coconut. I’ve heard of one person who was hiking through the remote jungles and was offered a pile of sago garnished with a tarantula! It’s not really my favorite food.
